What we plan to get changed

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is not an elected position. It is a regulatory body whose commissioners are appointed by the Governor of California and confirmed by the state Senate. The CPUC oversees utilities, including electricity, water, gas, and telecommunications, ensuring fair rates and safe operations. Commissioners typically serve six-year terms, and the CPUC’s decisions affect all Californians by regulating essential services like energy pricing and utility reliability.

If you want to influence CPUC decisions or appointments, citizens can contact their state representatives or participate in public comment opportunities at CPUC hearings.

For too long, PG&E’s rate hikes have been burdening families and businesses without clear justification. The Rate Breakdown on your energy bill includes a complex list of charges, from energy usage to state-mandated fees, many of which are difficult to understand and often seem inflated. These hidden costs make it nearly impossible for the average consumer to see exactly where their money is going.

We’re calling for Rate Reduction and transparency. Our goal is to simplify the breakdown and expose unjustified charges. By pushing for reform, we can ensure that utility bills reflect only necessary costs and not excessive corporate profits. Together, we’ll demand PG&E and regulators take responsibility for fair pricing, keeping energy affordable and accessible for everyone.

Join the movement and help us fight for a system where energy prices are fair and transparent—because no one should have to struggle to keep the lights on.

PG&E has long held a monopoly over a large portion of California’s energy market, leaving customers with no alternative but to accept their ever-increasing rates and questionable practices. This lack of competition has allowed PG&E to control pricing, limit consumer choice, and prioritize profits over the well-being of its customers.

We’re advocating to break up the monopoly and introduce more competition into the energy market. By challenging PG&E’s dominance, we aim to:

  • Lower Energy Costs: Competition will drive prices down, giving consumers more affordable options.
  • Increase Accountability: With multiple providers, each will need to operate transparently and efficiently to retain customers.
  • Promote Innovation: New companies will introduce cleaner, more efficient energy solutions that benefit the environment and consumers alike.

It’s time to end PG&E’s monopoly and create a fairer energy market where consumers have real choices and control over their energy bills. Join us in pushing for reform, demanding transparency, and making energy affordable for everyone!

PG&E has operated unchecked for far too long, imposing steep rate hikes and making decisions without considering the people they serve. It’s time for us to take back control of our energy and demand accountability from PG&E. We’re calling for transparency in billing, fair pricing, and responsible management of our energy resources.

By joining this movement, you’re helping to:

  • Hold PG&E Accountable: Demand that they justify every rate increase and take responsibility for their failures.
  • Push for Consumer Rights: Ensure fair treatment for all, with transparent bills and affordable energy solutions.
  • Create a Better Future: Advocate for a cleaner, more efficient energy system that works for consumers, not just corporations.

Together, we can force the change we deserve. Stand with us to fight for a fair, accountable energy system!

Ask us anything

PG&E cites various factors for rate hikes, including infrastructure improvements, wildfire prevention, and operational costs. However, many argue that these increases are disproportionately affecting consumers and local businesses, while PG&E continues to profit. Our movement is pushing for more transparency and fairness in these price adjustments.

There are several ways to lower your energy bills:

  • Implement energy-saving practices like using LED bulbs and adjusting your thermostat.
  • Apply for PG&E’s bill relief programs, such as the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program, which offers discounts for qualifying households.
  • Explore alternative energy options like solar power, which may reduce reliance on PG&E and save money long-term.

As a monopoly, PG&E faces little competition, allowing them to raise prices without fear of losing customers. This limits consumer choice and creates a system where you pay higher rates for basic energy needs. We believe that breaking this monopoly or regulating it more strictly will result in fairer prices and better service.

Unfortunately, in many areas of California, PG&E is the only available provider due to its market dominance. However, you can explore options like community choice aggregators (CCAs), which allow local governments to purchase energy on behalf of their residents, potentially offering more affordable and greener alternatives.

You can get involved by signing our petition, attending local rallies, and contacting your representatives to demand changes in energy regulations. Check out our Take Action page for more details on how you can make a difference!

PG&E is regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which oversees rate changes and safety measures. However, many argue that these regulations are not strict enough, which is why we are advocating for stronger oversight and accountability to protect consumers from unjust price hikes.
